Derby champ Alysheba returns to Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP)—Former Kentucky Derby champion Alysheba is back home.

The 1987 Derby and Preakness winner arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park on Friday after spending the last eight years at his owner’s stables in Saudi Arabia.

Several hundred fans turned out as the 24-year-old son of Alydar completed his journey. He will be stabled in the Horse Park’s Hall of Champions alongside Cigar, Kona Gold and Da Hoss.

Horse Park executive director John Nicholson calls Alysheba a symbol of goodwill between people and nations. He says the horse will be appreciated by the hundreds of thousands of guests who visit the park each year.
